38th Annual Charity Golf Classic (2022)

The 38th Annual Charity Golf Classic was held on June 17, 2022, at Rawiga Golf Club in Seville.  We had a beautiful day on the course with 15 4-somes hitting the tees followed by a wonderful Dinner catered by DiFeo's Catering where we also honored our four Scholarship Recipients.  We even had a hole in one on the course by Joe Mazur!

Thanks again to all our donors, volunteers and sponsors!  Big thanks to title sponsor, Rubber City Arches, our Silver Sponsor GPD Group and Bronze Sponsors: George Farris, Bella Dora Management & Bernier Financial.  Additional thanks to our Hole Sponsors: Wealth Guard Financial, Judge Alison Breaux, and Kristen Scalise, as well as our Pin Flag Sponsors: Mark Pagni, James Orwig, David Peterson, Brodie Haer, Lewis Landscaping & Nursury, The Peanut Shoppe, Sherrie Petrochuk, TrudyBear Properties, LLC, Carolyn Marquette & Margaret Claflin.

With the help from our donors, sponsors, golfers and volunteers, our event raised over $16,000 for the JWCC Charities which support many Akron area charities.

Stay tuned for more details on next year's event!

36th Annual Charity Golf Classic (2020)

The 36th Annual Charity Golf Classic was held on June 22, 2020 at Silver Lake CC. After much consideration and numerous conversations amid the COVID pandemic we decided to go ahead and hold our Golf Classic on our original date. Working with the Silver Lake CC staff and seeking out enough volunteers we prepared for a pared down, but just as classy, as always, Golf Classic. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans and for us and only the 4th time in 36 years our Golf was rained out.

While waiting for the rain to stop our golfers enjoyed a bagged lunch, an open bar and lots of lively conversations with their friends. We are also very appreciative to the Silver Lake CC staff who were on the top of their game as they presented each golfer who attended that day a gift certificate to come back and play their round another day.

Even despite the odds against us, the Golf Classic raised over $40,000 of which $30,000 was presented to the Ronald McDonald House of Akron, and the remaining $10,000 will be donated to local charities through the JWCC Charity Fund.  Thank you to all our donors, volunteers and golfers for your continued support.  Stay tuned for information on our 37th Annual Charity Golf Classic coming in the summer of 2021.

2020 Battered Women's Fundraiser

Although the annual Battered Women's Shelter event was formally cancelled due to the pandemic, the Dayton Nursery was very generous and allowed 10% of all JWCC sales for the month of May to be donated to the shelter. The total proceeds from plant sales was $549.68. When combined with cash donations and gifting through the Facebook fundraiser, our club raised a total of $699.68!  The JWCC Charity Fund added to the contribution giving a grand total of $1,000 donated to the Battered Women's Shelter in Akron.

The New Ronald McDonald House Tour!

The March General Meeting was held at the NEW Ronald McDonald House of Akron! We were one of the first groups to hold a meeting in the new building (which is not open to the public yet!) We were so thrilled to see all the hard work that has gone into this BEAUTIFUL new home! Many of our members volunteer here regularly so it was so nice to see how happy they are with the outcome!

Pictured below are areas of the new home including 42 family rooms, quiet ares, kitchen space, outdoor areas, & the room and brick in which JWCC sponsored! :) We are so very proud of the RMH and congratulate them on their opening!

Scholarship Fundraiser

We had a wonderful evening out on Friday, February 23 watching the Cavs bring home a win and raising money for the Scholarship fund!

I think I speak for all in attendance when I say everything was delightful!!  The atmosphere at Debra Valatka’s venue was perfect!  We had lots of wonderful food prepared by Gloria Poole & Karen Poulos with Dori Kinkoph helping in the kitchen.  Drinks were flowing from our bartenders, Margaret & Jim Claflin, Jenny Young and her sister Betsy Young.  Steve Buschko and Brian Shoman manned the Chuck-A-Lug betting game that had everyone in stitches, and walking away with a few bucks hopefully!  Mary Cornachionne and Lisa Ricchuitto sold Greek Dinner tickets and beads for the Heads Up game all night long.  While my co-chair, Sara Fusco-Oberhauser and I ran around like crazy women making sure everything was running smoothly.  I can’t thank our committee enough for all that they did that evening.  They stepped in whenever and where ever was needed to make the event a success!  A big thanks to our other committee members that were not able to attend but helped in other ways; Amanda Bernier, Nancy Lorenzo, Denise Vittum, Patty Buschko and Nora Houser.

And we cannot thank Debra Valatka and her husband Mark enough for donating their facility free of charge for us to use!!  They really went above and beyond decorating it perfectly and donating so many items!!  And thank yous also go out to Helen Fusco and her husband Jeff for donating many of the items for the silent auction and tirelessly working numerous nights decorating and then cleaning up!!

Finally, to Karen & Larry Poulos for donating the Greek Dinner!  As many of you know our sales this year far exceeded our expectations and I’m pleased to say were RECORD BREAKING!!  We raised more money this year for the Greek Dinner than Karen & Larry have ever raised for any of the events they’ve donated to throughout all the years.  We raised $2,565 for the Greek Dinner alone!!  That is more than one scholarship!!  AND THE WINNER IS: DORI KINKOPH!!  We’re so excited for Dori and 11 of her new best friends to have a wonderful evening out at the Poulos house this summer!  Big thanks to Margaret Claflin for taking the reins for the ticket sales – her initiative to reach out to all our members was really what pushed our sales over the top!

The final numbers are still coming in, but we expect that we’ve raised nearly $6,000 this year at the event!  Thank you to all that attended, donated, bought Greek tickets or just got the word out!!  Every dollar counts!

Fall Social - Cooking Class

Sunday, October 22, thirty-eight members and their guests attended a cooking class at Graf Growers. Judi Strauss, a local lecturer, cooking instructor, and author, demonstrated several fall and holiday recipes. Attendees sampled the dishes that were prepared and received a handout that included numerous recipes. In addition, everyone took home an adorable candy apple favor provided by Joyce Lewis and cutting board donated by Diane Husk. The social committee was happy to provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy good food, wine, apple cider, and time with JWCC friends.

33rd Annual RMH Charity Golf Classic

June 26, 2017 - WOW, just wow! This is what was heard from many of the people that attened the 33rd Annual RMH Charity Golf Classic. Helen Fusco & Margaret Claflin, along with their amazing committee, put on a golf classic to remember! It was held at Portage Country Club on a breezy summer day. There was approximately 150 golfers, Ronald McDonald showed up for his support, celebrity golfers such as Frank Stams, Bill Considine, Ellen Tressel, and Austin Carr showed their support, and guest speaker of honor at dinner, Mr. Jim Tressel! WHAT!? What an amazing job in putting this charity event together this year. Your long hours, sweat, and tears were all worth it!! Congrats on such a success! We can't wait to see that BIG check in the hands of the amazing Akron Ronald McDonald House this year!!!

Although cold and rainy weather had been the norm all week, the annual Rose Tea, held at the home of Virginia Burgess on Sunday, May 7, was blessed with a beautiful, sunny Ohio Spring day.  Thirty-two ladies were in attendance, including our 6 new JWCC members.  The purpose of the Rose Tea was to honor and welcome our new members and also included a time to sample sweet and savory refreshments provided by the Membership Committee, consisting of Angie Matesevac, Denise Vittum, Kathy Shisler, Helen Fusco, Gloria Poole, Carolyn Marquette, and Mary Jo Regennitter.  Everyone enjoyed the afternoon gathering of JWCC fellowship.

Social Events

Fall 2016

The JWCC Fall Social was such fun! Thank you to all members and friends who attended, and to the committee for your hard work. Our artistic talents were uncovered by our teacher Hillary Ash of Colorful Canvas as we painted "Fall Birch." She was so patient with us all as we doubted ourselves, but at the end we each had a beautiful masterpiece! Who knew we had such talent?! Thanks to Hillary this event was a great success.

Spring 2017

The Spring Social event this year was once again, Bunco! What a great night we had! Bunco is a game of luck, no experience needed! This event was started several years ago by a group of ladies who play Bunco outside of club. It is always a fun night and is always being requested each year as one of our social events! If you have never played.. you should come next time! Thanks to Sally and her committee for wonderful evening of fun!

Scholarship Fundraiser

Thank you to Virginia Burgess and her committee for a great night at the Fundraiser! It was a very successful event and we look forward to next year!
